Roxtec fire protection solutions tested in Eurobond panels

The EI 120 fire rating of our safety seals is successfully proven.

Roxtec fire protection solutions tested in Eurobond panels

At Roxtec, we offer a comprehensive range of sealing solutions to the construction industry. We have, for example, become an important trusted advisor to the data center industry thanks to our dedicated customer service and certified application specific products protecting against fire, water, air leaks and vermin. Together with Euroclad Group, we have tested two of our seals in stone wool panels and achieved EI 120 fire ratings.

Our seals help ensure security for your data center so there is no downtime caused by hazards entering your structures through openings for cables or pipes. Roxtec products are tested and certified for all structure types including concrete, sandwich panels, block and plasterboard.

Testing with Euroclad Group

Due to the evolution of data center builds, stone wool panels have become the number one choice for data center structures. The reason for using stone wool panels is their excellent structural and fire resistance properties. We have conducted tests together with Euroclad Group, which is part of the Kingspan Group, as it is one of the leading suppliers of stone wool panels to the data center industry. They offer a wide range of panel thicknesses to meet the increasing concerns of fire protection. Based on this alignment of safety values, Roxtec and Euroclad Group will continue to perform tests based on customer requirements in projects going forward to ensure the combined system maintains its fire properties after cable and pipe installations. These projects include battery plants, semi-conductor plants, life-science facilities and data centers.

Extensive fire resistance testing

This joint effort involves extensive testing of the Roxtec GHM transit range on Eurobond panels in accordance with the EN 1366-3 fire standard. This fire resistance testing method for service installations specifically focuses on the penetration seals used in building structures. The standard ensures any openings for cables, pipes or services are stringently tested to see if they maintain integrity and insulation during a fire.

In accordance with EN standards

To achieve ETA certification, Roxtec tested the specimen in an accredited external test facility containing Roxtec GHM transits and lightweight Roxtec FlamePlus™ transits with cables installed. The transits were mounted in vertical 200 mm thick Eurobond Rockspan panels for testing. The test was in accordance with EN 1366-3:2021 and followed the heat curve for fibrous fire stated in EN 1363-1:2020. The cables in the standard cover vast cable types currently and commonly used in building practice in Europe.

Excellent test results

The Roxtec GHM transit and Eurobond panel fire solution managed an EI 120 rating which means the temperature rise on the unexposed side was below 180 degrees and the partition was intact after two hours of continuous fire where the temperature exceeds 1 000 °C after 90 minutes and continues to rise during the test. The Roxtec FlamePlus™ also achieved up to EI 120 fire rating with a similar set-up.

Based on these excellent results, we are now waiting for official fire resistance ETA certification for panels so we can further guarantee safety within cable and pipe sealing.
