GK Firestop sealing kit vs. compounds

Which method is most useful when you need to seal cable penetrations in line with Class A fire ratings? How can you save time, and at the same time seal multiple cables? Watch this video – a comparison between the GK Firestop sealing kit (GK FS SK) and a typical compound and filler-based method.

Video comparison featuring the GK Firestop sealing kit (left) and a typical compound and filler-based method (right).

As you can see in the video, there are differences – especially when it comes to installation time and fill ratio. It takes 1 h and 17 minutes to install the compound-based solution with 24 cables, and 18 minutes to perform a similar installation with the GK FS SK.

A typical compound and filler-based solution has a cable fill ratio of 30-40 percent, while the GK FS SK has a cable fill ratio of 68 percent. Most compounds need additional insulation to meet A-60 or A-0 requirements and have a curing time stretching over several days. The GK FS SK does not need any additional insulation and is instantly functional after installation.
