Simply the best seals for Scandlines

Watertight – before and after fire.

Simply the best seals for Scandlines

In order to ensure water-tightness after fire, ferry operator Scandlines in Denmark replaced all other kinds of pipe seals on the recently built ferries M/F Berlin and M/F Copenhagen with Roxtec transits.

"We chose Roxtec as overall supplier of cable and pipe seals because we had so many different pipe penetrations and retrofits to handle. The bulkheads must withstand 2.5 bar water pressure, and with Roxtec we covered all our needs for quality and flexibility," says Joachim Lund, dualofficer at Scandlines.

Roxtec also provided full documentation on sealing and insulation requirements and supplied drawings including solutions with all needed type approvals. Scandlines felt even more confident in their choice.

We optimize safety by selecting Roxtec as supplier of all transits.

Scandlines also uses Roxtec seals instead of traditional cable glands in the cabinets in the engine room. The reason is that they want to increase quality in general – and specifically for the fire-fighting system.

"Safety is extremely important for passenger lines. We invest to be sure that all cable and pipe transits are in order and that we meet all safety regulations," says Fini A. Hansen, coordinating superintendent at Scandlines.

Top of mind

Scandlines will continue to use Roxtec sealing solutions all over their ferries.

"We have a good experience with Roxtec. They know what to do, and our people who work with Roxtec transits every day are very positive. We think Roxtec before thinking of other transit suppliers," says Fini A. Hansen.

134 000 euro per minute is the estimated cost for a fire onboard a ferry.

It is crucial to ensure integrity in cabinets in the main engine room.

The main engine room requires proper safety systems throughout the lifecycle.

Roxtec provides standard and customized pipe seals as well as all the documentation needed.

The final Scandlines hybrid ferry is driven by traditional diesel power combined with an electric battery operation.
