As a long-term partner to power transmission system operator TenneT Germany, Roxtec was chosen to deliver sealing solutions for cables, pipes and busbars to the DolWin5 project.
The DolWin5 project is an offshore grid connection system within the DolWin cluster. It is led by TenneT Germany and realized in collaboration with Aibel in Norway, Seatrium in Singapore, and Hitachi Energy. It uses HVDC (high-voltage direct current) technology to transmit 900 MW of power from the North Sea to the onshore grid, enough to supply around 1 million homes. The project supports Germany’s energy transition by integrating large-scale offshore wind power.
Protecting equipment from EMI
Roxtec supplied penetration seals to the DolWin Epsilon offshore converter station, which was engineered and built by Aibel and Seatrium. The delivery included Ex rated transits for sealing, bonding and grounding of low-voltage and secondary cables, seals for pipe penetrations and cable entries in cabinets as well as sealing solutions for busbar entries.
Sealing both at sea and on land
This is the first TenneT project to connect wind turbines directly to the offshore platform via 66 kV AC (alternating current) cables. The AC from the turbines is converted to DC, transmitted via submarine and land cable systems, and then converted back to AC at the onshore coverter station. Roxtec also contributed to the onshore converter station designed and built by Hitachi Energy.
Partnership for today and tomorrow
The project partners selected Roxtec based on product performance, great relationship and global support. The sealing products include Multidiameter™, the Roxtec invention for adaptability to cables and pipes of different sizes based on modules with removable layers. The seals from Roxtec have a practical built-in spare capacity that allows for easy upgrades and expansion with additional cables or pipes. Roxtec also frequently provides technical support and installation training at the yards during construction and for maintenance Teams at Tennet.
